Case study 6.2

1.      What benefits does Tesco’s information exchange offer to the retailer and its suppliers?

Tesco information exchange (TIE) is used for combining retailer’s knowledge along with the product knowledge of suppliers and the responsibility for managing products to the appropriate suppliers. It allows suppliers to have better understanding of a specific product lines, and when a suppliers join TIE, they can have an easy access to the web site and view daily sales range electronically from Tesco stores. From this the suppliers can monitor the changes  in real time and can have more time to react, the retailer will come know about the  product availability and reduction in the inventory.   

     2. What differences have the use of TIE added over the original EDI system?

There are two differences available between EDI and TIE. The first difference is, EDI is a technique where we can only exchange the data electronically where as TIE is two way exchange. Because of the two ways exchange the supplier has to be involved more in the supply chain. In addition to this the data will be processed and will be analysed to provide the information regarding the sales performance from different aspects such as TV region, distribution centre or individual store which effect the promotions. The second difference is TIE has a promotion management module which allows the retailers and suppliers to manage their business and also helps them to collaborate in all stages of the promotion.

    
      3.Discuss reasons why only two of Tesco’s suppliers have fundamentally altered the way  they work as a result of TIE?

Ø  The suppliers will be providing products to other retailers who may not be using a TIE    exchange system as Tesco has. So the suppliers have to keep using the same work line to satisfy all their retailers.
Ø  Retailing is one of the traditional industries, where each of the suppliers must follow their own work line that suits the needs for the majority of the retailers.

Beer Game


This game was really interesting and was very much excited to play.We was in the retailer side.The major problem we faced while playing the game is the delivery problem.We haven't got the proper response from the distributors or factory.The other problem we experienced was we were bit confused to fix up the price for the beer as we need to have a low cost in our inventory.

1. Blog
     Buyer = Reviews and comments, Experience from previous users.
     Seller = Advantages of products, Offers given, Developments and Future enhancements.
2. Customer Database
      Buyer = Can talk to the customers who are using the products and can know their experiencing in using in it.
      Seller = To check the warranty and to do promotions by giving some offers via e-mail, texts etc.
3. Wikis
       Buyer = To know about the products history, company details and reviews and comments given by the other users.
       Seller = To check how it has reached among the people and the comments given by the people who are using it.
4. Twitter
       Buyer = chat with the people who uses the product as well as to the company to clarify the doubts about the products and its usage.
       Seller = To convince people to buy the products, to do promotions and to get the comments from the people who are using the product.
5. Website in general
          Buyer = To know about the products , their specifications ,comparison between various products and their cost.
          Seller = General outline about the products , prices ,videos about the products etc.
6. Others
          Various sources, pamphlets, advertisements , word of mouth etc. 

4. What business model should we adopt?
In my point of view i would like to adopt the Business –to-Consumer (B2C) model.
Consumer shopping on the web is called as B2C.Here the Businesses sell products or services to Individual consumers.

selection of elective papers.

                       The first day of my college life in Rhul.I was in a friends house in North Harrow, i know we have to select the elective on the day between 1pm and 3pm.
                        Myself and my friends Saravanan and Kapil was coming from harrow.On the way to college in Egham towncenter they both got down and made me to get down of the bus.Then from there we went to Favourites chicken shop and had our lunch.they both had a Chicken burger meal and i ate a Vege wrap meal.
After our lunch we started to college and came to college by 2.One of our friend Akurshan Rampaul form our country,whom we met on the induction day was waiting for us.After reaching college we searched for the place where the meeting is being held and finally we came to know its in the windsor building first floor.I knocked the door and a guy came from inside and inquired whom we are.After telling the details he said its already an hour past and asked whether we are interested to attend the session.We went in and there was no place to sit,so we stood in one corner of the room.Shortly we were accompanied by Nepphemy.The briefing about the management elective is over,by the time.The briefing for selecting computer elective started ,i was in a bit nervous state so i was not in a position to select which path i was to select.after some time Dr.Jose Rodrigo Cordoba Pachon started giving the elective selection sheet, and asked to select the electives of our choice.He also added that if we are not clear about the papers he said to write our preferences in a order and can change on Monday(28/09/10).
                        I asked the help from Netrali , a friend whom i know from India to choose the elective.She explained me clearly about the various pathways we have and what we will be learning in each module.Then Meryl become friend and she to joined netrali and helped me.Finally i choose the first path.At last while i was submitting the paper to Dr.Jose Rodrigo Cordoba Pachon , he called me and said "if coming to class be on time don't be late if your late don't come to class."I asked sorry for the thing happened to him.Then met Santosh and introduced myself and was happy to hear he to from my country.Then we exchanged our mobile numbers.
                       Next we all went and attended the induction of computer lab which was held in the International Building.They thought us to change the password of our RHUL mail id and gave some general information.
The day ended with it.
